The Ant's Store
Updated 2026-10-28 · Concept: store in summer, before winter asks
Summer is a stack of ordinary weeks. Winter is a stack of ordinary weeks too, except nothing is coming in. This counts crumbs, not dollars, so a child can hold it: store some each week while the weather is good, then see if the store lasts.
Predict first
Store 2 crumbs a week for 12 weeks. Winter lasts 8 weeks and you eat 2 a week. How many are left when winter ends?
Pick an estimate, or skip to your own numbers.
Crumbs, on purpose. A real emergency fund is the same shape with dollars and months: store while income is coming in, draw when it is not. Nothing here is a promise that storing guarantees a comfortable winter. It shows only whether this store covers this winter.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.Proverbs 6:6-8
KJV. A proverb about a habit, not a contract. The ant has no boss and no formula. She stores in the season when storing is possible. Elsewhere the same book condemns withholding grain from the people who need it (Proverbs 11:26), so the store has a purpose: the winter, not the pile.
