Estate Readiness Check

Updated 2026-07-31 · Concept: 12 items that decide what your family inherits

Almost nobody's estate plan fails because of tax. It fails because a beneficiary form was never updated, or nobody could find the password, or the reasoning behind the division was never said out loud. Tick what is already true in your household. What stays unticked is the list, and most of it costs an afternoon rather than a fee.

A checklist, not legal advice, and nothing here is saved or sent; reloading clears it. Estate law is state- and country-specific, and the documents must be executed properly to work at all: an attorney is worth the fee here, and a cheap template executed wrongly is worse than nothing because it creates false confidence.

Set thine house in order
Isaiah 38:1

KJV. The words are given to King Hezekiah when he is told he will not recover, and in the next verses he prays and is given fifteen more years, so the instruction is not a death sentence but a duty. It is not a morbid errand either: it is the last act of provision, and 1 Timothy 5:8 makes provision for your household a duty that does not obviously stop at your own death.
